Raising Awareness
One of the key lessons learned since the establishment in 1992 of the voluntary marine protected area, has been that education is a vitally important management tool.
By informing people of the potential problems of some recreational activity to the Bottlenose Dolphin population, particularly boating and dolphin watching, much can be achieved to limit any negative impacts on the animals. Ceredigion County Council provides information at harbours and other boat launching sites; the SAC officer also works closely with local schools to raise awareness and promote respect and understanding for the animals found within the Cardigan Bay SAC.
